Last sunday the first of the Gower Rockhoppers mini opens took place at Mumbles.
There was an excellent attendance of 33 anglers, some of which were fishing a competition for the very first time.
Unfortunlately the fishing was quiet, probably due to the calm conditions in the bay. There was however a shoal of mackrel in front of us for most of theincoming tide, pity they didn't count.
4 fish were brought to the scales.
Gareth Lloyd was 1st with a silver eel of 1lb 1, 1/2 ounces which netted him £100 plus and extra £50 for the heaviest fish other than a dogfish prize.
2nd Carl Campion (10oz Gurnard) winning £80
3rd Peter Evans (9, 1/2 oz Gurnard) winning £60
4th Peter Calford (7oz Pouting) winning £40
All anglers who entered the competition were given the chance to enter acharity raffle for an extra £2 with the proceeds being donated to Morriston Hospital Childrens ward at the end of the year. 30 of the 33anglers entered to make a total £60 raised.
A big thank you goes to the 4 tackle shops who provided tackle vouchers for prizes for the raffle.
The raffle winners were as follows:
Mal George £25 Country Stores Voucher
Peter Calford £20 Basstastic Mumbles Pier Voucher
Jerome Curtis £10 H R Jones Voucher
Paul Morgan £10 Mainwarings voucher

Just got back from Borth fishing the second leg of the Welsh shore trials.
The fishing was quite poor with the bulk of the catches made up of small flounder and dabs. There was also a couple of greater weaver fish caught the biggest of which was 40cm long. I have never seen them that big before!
Myself and Tony fished the same zone on pegs next to each other, I came 2nd in the zone with 4 flounder in size Tony had 1 flounder undersize.

The venue was split into 2 zones either sides of the beach to hopefully get away from the tourists, surfers etc. IT DIDN'T WORK!!!
No surprise really due to how nice a day it was.
However there were a few fish caught, Flouders, bass, grey mullet and golden grey mullet. The most productive zone was Worms head side of the beach.
Results
Zone 1
1st Danian Geldard (Isle of Wight) 3.62m
2nd Tony Oates 2.50m
Longest brace Peter Calford
Zone 2
1st Joe Arch 1.54m
2nd Andrew Hutchins 1.44m
Longest brace Mark Cowell
Longest Fish Gerald John 50cm mullet

Two of the club members fished.
Myself and Tony Oates.
Fishing conditions were terrible, the weather was good but there was an easterly wind blowing right in our faces and the weed was unfishable.
Dispite this a a good number of dogs came out, also bream and a couple of dabs. A few bull huss made up the bags too.
Tony and I blanked!!!!!!!

Members Fished
Tony Oates, Ror Roggers, Mark Hearn, Chris Isaac, Darren Bennet, Paul Williams, Mike Porter, Jerome Curtis
It was decided that the pool prizes would go to the biggest fish other than a dogfish. Catches for the day included 1 plaice, 2 flounder and a few small turbot.
No fish in-size were brought to the scales therefore no prizes were won.
